The Gütschbahn is a funicular railroad that leads directly to the Hotel Château Gütsch. It offers a practical and remarkable easy connection to and from Lucerne.
The history of the Gütschbahn is closely linked to that of the Hotel Château Gütsch on Lake Lucerne. It was built in 1881 to provide access to the hotel and opened in 1884 as a water ballast lift, but it was also always open to the general public. From 1990, the Gütschbahn was converted to automatic operation and in 2015 the old funicular was replaced by two modern inclined elevators. Today, the ride to the Gütsch takes just one and a half minutes.
